How to choose your first goal

Cover

We love hearing from people who love the tool and one of the most popular questions we get is, What type of goal should I try?. While the answer is personal and tailored to each user, here’s a general guide on how to make the most of your experience with Mentor.

Start with something familiar

Begin by trying out Mentor with a goal or task you’ve already completed in the past. This will help you understand how Mentor could have made the process easier and more efficient. By already knowing what was needed to accomplish the goal before, this will give you perfect knowledge of whether Mentor could have made the process easier in the first place. You can then apply these principles to other goals you have in mind.

Tackle a long snoozed task

Another very effective way to see if Mentor is going to be helpful for you is to pick a task or goal that you’ve been putting off for weeks or even months. This doesn’t have to be a life goal, just something that’s been lingering on your to-do list for a while now. If you went from no progress to little progress in a session, that means Mentor has what it takes to help you start achieving your goals. Don’t forget getting started is one of the most important things when pursuing your goals.

Try a “typical” goal

Another great way to play around and check out Mentor is to experiment with a typical life goal you might hear at school, work or even at home. These might be common fitness goals such as losing weight or finally start using that gym membership you’ve been paying for months. Others might be mental health goals such as meditating daily or incorporate some breathing exercises to your daily routine. We also see lots of interest in personal and professional development areas such as asking for that promotion you’ve been afraid to bring up or learning a new skill. Any and all of these will give you a sense of how Mentor handles goals, provides you with resources and the type of information that is important to help you start.
